Sonic 1: All emerald Tas problem
« on: June 28, 2006, 10:32:16 am »
I didn't know if this was the right place to come to but I'm currently working on an all emerald tas, but the stage that caused me the most problems by far in the testrun was Marble 2. I checked the map on the site but it doesn't show where the rings and boxes are. I currently doing OK since I've consistently made improvements over the existing TAS records, Im also going for overall game time which meant finishing the first stage in 30 seconds. It would be great if someone could help me with a ring route since I was seventeen seconds behind the previous pure speed TAS.

From what I remember of the stage you're probably better to pick up an emerald on a later level and just TA Marble 2.  I'll have a proper look later though.

I've already done and I got 1:00 for it, but I couldn't be sure if 59 is possible. I can't possibly think what would be a better stage than that. I did do a lot of research and came up with

Green Hill 1+2
Marble 1+2
Spring Yard 1+2

Scrap Brain 2 would have been ideal but the ring doesn't appear at the end of it. Scrap Brain 1 can't be done because the zipping glitch is used (can't remeber how much time it saves if optimized). Fatal Labarinth is too frustrating so the focus should be on speed. The two star light stages can be done in 20 secs from a TAS point of view.

The times that can be theoretically achived with 50+ rings are

Green Hill 1 = 25
Green Hill 2 = 18
Marble 1     = 46 (I've done this faster than the current pure speed TAS)
Marble 2     = 1:00 (59 maybe)
Spring Yard 1 = 24 (23 maybe) What is the WR for this stage anyway because there is no video of it
Spring Yard 2 = 28 (no diversion required for it)

That only diverts about 9-10 secs (condidering fractions) overall

The TSC Spring Yard 1 record is 23 seconds currently.  Also: 46 seconds with 50+ rings on Marble 1?  That'd be a seriously pwnage run.

I just want to say that I finally finished it with a time of 20:58.95s.

I'll post an AVI if it ever gets released.

I've just watched the movie and it's pretty awesome.  I'm not quite sure, but it looked like the score at the extreme end (when the Emeralds appear) was replaced with the hex values that appear during debug mode.  It might be because at the end I was holding all 4 directions.  I gotta re-check.

OK here's Sonic 1 all emeralds TAS, that aims to complete the game in real time. I gave permission for the guy to host this video but the sound is out of sync with the movie.

I can see why now there no speedrun on this because there is about 8-9 areas that require 1/60 precision. So getting remotely close to these times on some levels is probally very unlikely.

In Star Light 2 I get 16 seconds because I use left+rght movement on an exact frame to half sonics velocity in a single frame, which saved 45 frames over a frame perfect skid. Enjoy anyway if you have any questions about the movie then please ask although I won't tolerate why don't you play the game in real time to see how good you really are. The anwser to that is I'm probally better than your average gamer, but not nearly as good as the people on the site.
